New Arrival – Pig-tailed Macaque, Duen
A few days ago, we took in Duen, a female Northern pig-tailed macaque who was desperate for a better life. She was kept chained at a business in Phuket and is estimated to be around two – three years old.
We understand she was purchased as a youngster – perhaps as an act of kindness to get her out of a cage, or perhaps as a pet. We have no way of knowing. What we do know is that macaques do not belong on chains – and they do belong with their own kind.
A kind individual in Phuket helped to secure Duen’s freedom, and our rescue team drove all the way to collect her and bring her safely to Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT).
In 2026, we really must do better for macaques. We need to work towards a more compassionate society, where macaques are valued and treated with respect – as wild animals.
Once Duen arrived at WFFT, we removed the collar from around her neck and she is now undergoing her quarantine period. Overall, she seems like a very sweet girl.
With every new rescue comes a huge and lifelong commitment, and we rely on donations to continue taking in animals like Duen. Any donation, big or small, makes a difference. It helps cover her rescue, veterinary care, food and ongoing care.
