Electrocuted Macaque Returns to the Wild
When Thor, a young long-tailed macaque, was recently electrocuted by overhead power lines, his future looked uncertain.
A compassionate nun who witnessed what had happened quickly contacted our rescue team. Thanks to her swift actions, we were able to reach Thor and bring him to our wildlife hospital for urgent care.
Thor had suffered injuries and bruising from the fall. Electrocution can often cause severe internal injuries that can be fatal, even when there are few visible wounds.
As forests disappear and macaques are forced to navigate urban environments, they face an increasing number of dangers, including power lines, road traffic, and other forms of human-wildlife conflict.
Thor received the treatment and rehabilitation he needed, and once he had fully recovered, our team was able to return him to the wild where he belongs.
Watching an animal like Thor regain his freedom is one of the most rewarding parts of our work. Every successful release represents a second chance, not just for an individual animal, but for a species facing an uncertain future.
Long-tailed macaques are classified as Endangered, making every rescue and every life saved even more significant. Rescuing, treating, rehabilitating, and releasing wild animals like Thor is only possible because of the generosity of people who support our work.
Thank you for helping us give animals like Thor a second chance.
