Spooky season at WFFT was full of pumpkins, playtime, and plenty of Halloween enrichment for our rescued animals!
Getting ‘Hope’ After 20 Years – update on macaque, Hope
It’s hard to describe the joy we feel to see Hope now. These photos of Hope capture more than a moment – they show the life-changing difference you, our supporters, make, giving literally hope to an animal who endured 20 years of some of the worst conditions we have ever known a macaque to survive.
Hope was confined to a cage smaller than 1×1 metre for 20 years. Can you imagine what that was like for her? Decades of neglect, cruelty, and darkness left her frail, pale, and nameless. Her eyes were sunken with despair, her body weak and stiff from prolonged confinement, and her skin so pale after a lifetime without sunlight or care. Her life mattered so little that she was never given a name.
So we named her Hope.
When she arrived at WFFT, we weren’t sure if she could ever recover enough to integrate with another macaque. But now we’re not only celebrating her 1-year rescue anniversary, but also that she has made a friend.
Hope seems genuinely happy with her female friend Neung, finally experiencing companionship for the first time in her life. Sunlight now touches her face, bringing colour and life back after decades in darkness.
This incredible story is a testament not only to Hope’s resilience but also to the support of our donors and supporters. You make life-changing differences possible for abused and neglected animals across Thailand – giving them hope where it was once unimaginable.
If Hope’s story has inspired you to help macaques, please consider making a small monthly gift for them.
