Jan the Puma’s health check

ภาษาไทยด้านล่าง We recently sedated beautiful Jan, our rescued Puma, in order to give her a comprehensive health check.

This included x-rays, blood and hormone checks, skin tests and a dental check. During the health check, we removed a mass on the left side of her neck – it was not cancerous, but we will need to keep a close eye on her in case it comes back. We also extracted one tooth, which could have become problematic and painful for her. Jan has been with us here at WFFT for around four years. Before then, she lived for seven years as a pet, in a horribly small space.

Jan was imported into Thailand when she was just a cub, and sold into the pet trade. This sadly means that she can never be released due to her being non-native to Thailand, and having never learnt the skills to survive in the wild. Before coming to WFFT, she lived in a concrete cell for so many years. Now she gets to feel grass under her feet, climb the large trees in her enclosure, hide amongst the grassland and bathe in her very own pool. She also gets the health care she needs.

ตรวจสุขภาพแจนกันค่ะ เราวางยาสลบแจนเพื่อที่ทีมสัตวแพทย์จะได้ทำการตรวจร่างกายได้อย่างครบถ้วน ทั้งการเอกซเรย์ ตรวจเลือด ตรวจฮอร์โมน ตรวจผิวหนัง และตรวจสุขภาพฟัน ระหว่างการตรวจสุขภาพ เราได้ตัดก้อนเนื้อบริเวณต้นคอออกด้วย ผลปรากฏว่าก้อนเนื้อนั้นไม่ใช่มะเร็ง แต่เรายังต้องคอยเฝ้าสังเกตอย่างใกล้ชิดว่าก้อนเนื้อจะกลับมาเป็นซ้ำหรือไม่ ทีมสัตว์แพทย์ถอนฟันโยกไปหนึ่งซี่ แจนมาอยู่ที่มูลนิธิเพื่อนสัตว์ป่าได้ 4 ปี แล้ว สิงโตภูเขาหรือเสือพูม่าอย่างแจนเป็นสัตว์ต่างถิ่น แจนถูกนำเข้ามาในประเทศไทย และถูกขายเข้าสู่ตลาดสัตว์เลี้ยงตั้งแต่ยังตัวน้อย ๆ แน่นอนว่าแจนไม่สามารถใช้ชีวิตในป่าธรรมชาติของไทยได้ อีกทั้งการถูกเลี้ยงโดยมนุษย์ตั้งแต่ยังเล็ก แจนจะไม่สามารถใช้ชีวิตรอดในป่าได้เลย ก่อนจะมาอยู่ที่ศูนย์แจนใช้ชีวิตเป็นสัตว์เลี้ยงอยู่ในกรงคอนกรีตเล็ก ๆ นานกว่า 7 ปี แต่ตอนนี้ชีวิตของแจนในทุก ๆ วัน แจนได้สัมผัสดินและหญ้า ปืนต้นไม้ ซ่อนตัวในพุ่มหญ้า เล่นน้ำในสระว่ายน้ำส่วนตัว และการดูแลสุขภาพจากทีมหมอของเรา น้ำใจและความช่วยเหลือจากผู้สนับสนุนทุกท่านทำให้เราได้มีโอกาสช่วยเหลือ และดูแลสัตว์ป่าที่มีปัญหา อาจเคยถูกทำร้าย หรือบอบช้ำทางจิตใจเช่นแจน ขอท่านร่วมมอบของขวัญเพื่อช่วยเหลือสัตว์ป่าอีก 800 ชีวิต ให้ได้มีชีวิตที่ดีและได้รับการดูแลที่พวกเขาควรได้รับ
