Wildlife Rescue As It Should Be!

(Scroll down for English)

We received a phone call on Saturday the 5th of October from a village chief about 70kms away from our wildlife rescue centre, calling in a rescue case of a pangolin that was weak, lethargic and covered in ants. Our mobile rescue team immediately went on their way to see what could be done.

On arrival of our team the pangolin was immediately handed over and they got on cleaning the poor animal of the ants and rehydrated it to regain strength. It was then taken to our wildlife hospital for a full check up and further plan to rehabilitate if possible.

After a few hours in our care the pangolin regained its strength quickly and on x-rays and blood check no problems were found. We think the pangolin either got lost from its original habitat into a village area, or might have escaped from illegal traders.

We decided to contact the director of the nearby Kaeng Krachan National Park, Mister Mana Phermpul, who immediately mobilised his rangers to take over the pangolin and accompany us to a proper and safe release site deep inside the park. Pangolins do not do well in captivity, so this swift action taken by the rescuers and Mister Mana, has surely saved it’s life! It is great to work together with authorities, saving Thailand’s wildlife.

The best rescue stories are the ones that end with “release”!
