The first side enclosures as part of our new coconut monkey project have been completed, and six rescued macaques have moved in.
Four Young Macaques Rescued
October brought four new macaque rescues to WFFT, all young and in desperate need of care and compassion.
DeeDee and Mitchell, two orphaned long-tailed macaques, were rescued by our friends at the Koh Chang Animal Project before finding safety at WFFT. DeeDee, only three months old, was taken from the wild as a tiny baby, kept in a home, and then released far too young, where he was attacked by other macaques. Mitchell, about one year and eight months old, was also kept as a pet and is now learning how to be a macaque again.
Another arrival, Gremlin, was found weak and covered in flies after being abandoned by her mother. Severely underweight and showing signs of blindness, she is now under the constant care of our vet team.
The fourth rescue, Joker, a young Northern pig-tailed macaque, was surrendered by his former owner after being hand-raised since he was just ten days old. With time and the company of other young macaques, we hope he will learn to live like a monkey again.
All four youngsters have had very difficult starts in life. They need nutritious food, medical support, enrichment, and space to grow up safely.
Please help give DeeDee, Mitchell, Gremlin, and Joker the second chance they deserve. Your kindness is vital to ensuring their future.
