Earlier this year, we welcomed a new arrival - a species of otter so rare that it was once believed to be extinct. Now, new photos show how he’s enjoying his new sanctuary home.
New Otter Rescued: Meet Thung Ngern

This week we welcomed male Asian Short-clawed otter, Thung Ngern to WFFT.
A partner NGO in Chumphon (about 4 hours from WFFT) acquired this handsome male otter during their community support work. Sadly, they discovered this poor otter was being kept in really terrible conditions and needed immediate access to medical care and a suitable diet. He was being fed extremely damaging foods.
Our rescue team rushed to Thung Ngern as soon as possible and brought this vulnerable species to WFFT. Otters are highly social animals who live in family groups – inappropriate captivity is cruel and damaging to their physical and mental health. Once Thung Ngern has received the vet care he needs, we hope to integrate him with some of our other rescued otters.
Despite being at capacity for otters, we couldn’t say no to Thung Ngern. ต้อนรับอีกหนึ่งชีวิตเข้าสู่มูลนิธิเพื่อนสัตว์ป่า “น้องถุงเงิน” นากเล็กเล็บสั้นเพศผู้
องค์กรไม่แสวงหาผลกำไรแห่งหนึ่งในชุมพร (ห่างจากมูลนิธิประมาณ 4 กม.) ได้เก็บตัวนากเพศผู้ตัวหนึ่งมา หลังพบว่าถูกนำมาเลี้ยงดูอย่างผิดธรรมชาติ และต้องการการรักษากับการปรับเปลี่ยนอาหารการกินโดยด่วน เพราะคนให้อาหารที่ไม่เหมาะสมกับธรรมชาติร่างกายของนาก
ทีมช่วยเหลือสัตว์ป่า ได้เข้าไปรับตัวถุงเงินมาที่มูลนิธิเพื่อนสัตว์ป่าในทันทีหลังได้รับแจ้ง ตามปกติแล้ว นากเป็นสัตว์ที่อยู่รวมกันเป็นกลุ่มใหญ่ๆ การที่ถูกจับแยกมาตัวเดียว จึงค่อนข้างที่จะโหดร้าย อาจส่งผลเสียต่อสภาวะร่างกายและจิตใจของนากได้ เมื่อถุงเงินได้รับการรักษาแล้ว เราตั้งใจจะให้ถุงเงินค่อยๆปรับตัวอยู่กับกลุ่มนากในมูลนิธิ
ถึงจะเป็นแค่ตัวนาก แต่มูลนิธิก็จะไม่มองข้ามน้องถุงเงินไป ด้วยความเมตตากรุณาและความรักที่เรามีให้ต่อสัตว์ทุกตัว นากที่ถูกช่วยมาจะได้รับทั้งอาหาร ที่อยู่ การรักษา ในสภาพแวดล้อมที่เหมาะสม คุณสามารถมีส่วนร่วมช่วยเหลือสัตว์ป่าได้ ด้วยการบริจาคเพื่อช่วยเหลือน้องถุงเงิน และสัตว์อื่นๆได้อีกมากมาย ถึงแม้บริจาคจะแค่เล็กน้อยก็ตาม
