WFFT’s Stray Animal Clinic Reopens to Help Thailand’s Dogs and Cats

  • Dogs

The clinic helped more than 6,000 street animals when it first opened in 2019, but was sadly forced to close due to the pandemic. Now, it’s reopened to offer life-improving care once again.

PAT Clinic

We are thrilled to announce the much-needed reopening of our People and Animals Thailand (PAT) clinic, which will once again help thousands of Thailand’s street animals and help tackle the overpopulation of street cats and dogs in the local areas.

Operated by WFFT, the PAT clinic originally opened in 2019 when it helped more than 6,000 dogs and cats in its first year, before it was sadly forced to close due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The free clinic will sterilise and vaccinate stray cats and dogs in the local areas.

PAT Clinic

Located between Hua Hin and Cha Am in Thailand, the clinic will use a purpose-built operating theatre and modern surgical techniques to desex and vaccinate around 200-300 street animals per month. The efficient veterinary team is able to operate on animals and return them to their area on the very same day.

Vaccinating street dogs and cats is essential in helping to tackle the spread of deadly diseases like rabies, which can affect both animals and humans.

And the clinic’s spay and neuter programme will help to humanely manage the local population of street animals, as the harsh reality means that kittens and puppies born on the street are unlikely to survive their first few weeks of life. The majority of these newborns succumb to starvation, disease, road accidents, or other horrible deaths, so if fewer animals are born on the street, then less will be born into a short life of misery.

Less feral dogs and cats on the streets also helps to diminish the impact on local endangered wildlife such as birds and small mammals.

“Our aim with the clinic is to work with the community to reduce the suffering of homeless animals and prevent unwanted kittens and puppies being born on the streets,” says WFFT founder, Edwin Wiek. “The clinic helped thousands of animals back in 2019, and now we’re ready to build on that progress to continue to help stray animal populations and improve the lives of both people and animals.”

The PAT clinic is an initiative by Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT), with the reopening made possible thanks to the generous support of Dog’s Trust Worldwide.

“We are very excited about this project which will lead to a healthy and happy population of dogs and therefore a harmonious relationship between the community and the animals,” says a spokesperson for Dogs Trust. “We wish the PAT clinic the greatest of success!”

It is only thanks to our generous supporters that we can be there for animals when they need help the most. Please help us to continue the PAT clinic and our other life-saving work for wildlife by making a donation.

People and Animals Thailand (PAT)ให้บริการทำหมันและฉีดวัคซีนป้องกันโรคพิษสุนัขบ้าโดยไม่มีค่าใช้จ่าย ให้กับสุนัขและแมว เพื่อช่วยจัดการปัญหาประชากรและลดจำนวนสุนัขและแมวจรจัดที่มีคุณภาพชีวิตย่ำแย่ตามท้องถนน

PAT Clinic

PAT Clinic
