Vaccinations are essential in helping to stop the spread of rabies, which kills nearly 60,000 people around the world each year.
PAT Clinic’s Latest Mission: Easing the Conflict Between Street Dogs and Wild Monkeys
Since reopening earlier this year, the People and Animals Thailand (PAT) clinic is now in full swing and is busy helping to sterilise and vaccinate street dogs and cats in the area.
The clinic’s latest mission has helped to tackle the problem of conflict between street dogs and wild monkeys. Our team was requested to visit Khao Krapuk-Khao Tao Mo, a protected forest area that is home to nearly 500 wild stump-tailed macaques who live in numerous troops.
The area is also home to a temple. It is common in Thailand for people to dump unwanted animals at temples in the unfair expectation that the monks will care for them. This has led to a population of street dogs at the temple in Khao Krapuk-Khao Tao Mo, and the PAT clinic team was on hand to sterilise the dogs to stop them breeding.
Preventing the street dogs from breeding is essential in keeping their population number low and manageable, and helps lower the chance of the dogs becoming in conflict with the nearby troops of monkeys.
The team also vaccinated the street dogs, helping to stop the spread of diseases like rabies. This helps not only the dogs, but also humans and the wild monkeys that they could potentially come into contact with.

นับตั้งแต่ คลินิกสงเคราะห์สัตว์ (PAT) เปิดอย่างเป็นทางการเมื่อช่วงต้นปีที่ผ่านมา จนถึงตอนนี้เราทำงานกันอย่างเต็มที่เพื่อช่วยเหลือสุนัขและแมวจรจัดในพื้นที่ให้ได้รับการทำหมันและฉีดวัคซีน
ภารกิจครั้งล่าสุดของทีมคลินิกสงเคาะห์สัตว์คือ การเข้าช่วยเหลือและรับมือกับปัญหาความขัดแย้งระหว่างลิงป่าและสุนัขจรจัด ทางคลินิกได้รับแจ้งให้เดินทางไปตรวจสอบในเขตพื้นที่วัดเขาเตาหม้อ ซึ่งเป็นพื้นที่ในเขตอนุรักษ์พันธุ์สัตว์ โดยพื้นที่ดังกล่าวเป็นแหล่งที่อยู่ของลิงเสนป่ากว่า 500 ตัว ซึ่งอาศัยรวมกันเป็นฝูงใหญ่ และยังเป็นบริเวณเดียวกันกับวัดเขาเตาหม้อ โดยเป็นที่ทราบกันดีว่าวัดในไทยเป็นพื้นที่ยอดนิยมในการนำสุนัขที่ไม่เป็นที่ต้องการมาปล่อย เนื่องจากคาดหวังให้พระดูแลให้อาหารที่ได้จากการบิณฑบาตร พื้นที่วัดเขาเตาหม้อก็เช่นเดียวกัน ที่มีประชากรสุนัขในบริเวณวัดเพิ่มมากขึ้น โดยทางคลินิกสงเคราะห์สัตว์ ได้เข้าไปทำหมันสุนัขเหล่านี้เพื่อหยุดการเพิ่มจำนวนของสุนัขต่อไป
การป้องกันไม่ให้มีการผสมพันธุ์เพิ่มจำนวนประชากรสุนัขจรจัดนั้นมีความสำคัญ นอกจากจะช่วยให้จำนวนสุนัขลดลงและง่ายต่อการจัดการ สุนัขมีคุณภาพชีวิตที่ดี ยังช่วยให้โอกาสที่สุนัขขัดแย้งกับฝูงลิงลดลงได้
นอกจากนี้ทางคลินิกยังได้ฉีดวัคซีนให้กับสุนัขดังกล่าว เพื่อช่วยหยุดการระบาดของโรคได้แก่พิษสุนัขบ้า ซึ่งไม่เพียงแต่ป้องกันโรคในสุนัขจรจัด แต่ยังรวมไปถึงในลิงป่าและคนที่อาจมีโอกาสสัมผัสกับสุนัขที่มีเชื้อโรคอีกด้วย

Our Mission
WFFT is one of South East Asia’s largest animal sanctuaries and cares for over 700 animals. The sanctuary rescues and rehabilitates captive wild animals, and offers a forever home to those who cannot safely be returned to the wild.
The charity also focuses on raising awareness of wildlife conservation and animal exploitation by educating tourists and local communities on the urgent issues facing animals today.
