We have opened our second CNVR (Catch, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return) clinic in Thailand - expanding sterilisation and vaccination services for stray animals into Tha Yang.
A New Species at WFFT: Simba the Serval
Wild animals are not pets. Yet, across Thailand, wild animals from other parts of the world are bred and sold, often without the buyers fully understanding their needs or the lifelong commitment involved.
Simba, a six-year-old serval, is one such animal. This species belongs in sub-Saharan Africa. Not in Thailand, and not in a domestic home. This wild cat came to Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT) after his previous owner, a foreigner living in Thailand, could no longer care for him.
Simba is the first and only serval in our care. We are increasingly being asked to take in non-native wild animals from the pet trade, animals who can never go back to the wild and will spend their entire lives in captivity.
Servals are wild cats with highly specialised needs. They are naturally solitary animals that can roam vast distances and are remarkable jumpers, capable of leaping to great heights. A typical home cannot provide the space, environment or opportunities they need to express their natural behaviours.
Wildlife should be wild. Thankfully, Simba now has a safe place at WFFT.
A New Habitat for Simba
Since his arrival, Simba has received the veterinary care he needs and has moved into a beautiful new habitat, giving him ample space to explore and express his natural behaviours.
Providing an appropriate environment is an essential part of caring for rescued wildlife.
For Simba, this is the beginning of a new chapter. Although he cannot be returned to the wild, we are committed to providing him with lifelong sanctuary and the best possible care. It is our supporters who make this possible.
Please donate to support Simba.
