Macaque creating trouble on airport, jailed at police station!

Now this story is probably unbelievable if it was without pictures as evidence… A macaque creates trouble at the Chumporn international airport, gets arrested by police and is later released “on bail” into the deep jungle….

The Mobile Wildlife Rescue unit (sponsored by Care for the Wild International) went out again on a rescue mission, this time to rescue a monkey from a probably long jail term...

In short; the macaque attacked several people at the airport and although the WFFT was on the way (a four hour trip) the police was able to corner the macaque and able to get a hold on the macaque. As there were no moving cages available in the neighborhood the police decided to lock the animal up in the jail at the police station till our rescue team would arrive...

On arrival at the Patui police station we find the macaque locked up in the "monkey house"

The macaque shows signs of anger and we need to sedate him before we can move him out.

Dr Mark Jones preparing the sedatives, armed with the dartgun...

When the macaque started to get drowsy it was easy to catch.

A quick check-up found no problems with the macaque

Police and Dr Jones posing before taking the macaque to our quarantine unit.

Getting ready to go back to the WFFT rescue center.

The media was interested in this rather strange story. At the release of the macaque Edwin explains how the macaque will need to reintegrate in a new group of stump tailed macaques...

This pack was found only 300 meters away from the release site. The macaque was immediately following this group from a safe distance....
