The Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand, or WFFT, home to more than 800 rescued animals, had planned to celebrate its 20th anniversary on 1 May. Instead, we may be shutting many gates for the last time.

WFFT assist Tourist Police in their Tourist Emergency Response Training Drill
Last week, staff and volunteers from the WFFT Wildlife Rescue Centre assisted the Tourist Police in their Tourist Emergency Response Training Drill down at Cha Am beach. Volunteers played the part of tourists in trouble after their boat had ‘collided’ with another and set on fire. The WFFT boat, driven by Edwin Wiek, was equipped with a smoke machine to simulate the fire, and as the ‘tourists’ abandoned ship, a helicopter and rescue boat were lauched to pick them up and give them emergency medical treatment.
After a successful operation rescuing the 3 ‘tourists’, a presentation ceremony featuring top Tourist Police and emergency services officials was held, both to close the drill and thank WFFT staff and volunteers for their help in the exercise.
